DESCRIPTION OF NYCENTRIC CONCEPT:

NYCENTRIC was an idea created to go against the current trend in pop culture today. Lately it has become very difficult to go out or turn on the radio without listening to the new dirty south and miami pop craze. I started to feel as if new york city music and subculture was starting to lack an identity even here in new york city. This was frustrating to us considering the rich history of hip-hop culture that was cradled here in the rougher streets of new york city. Our city is the epoch of hip-hop culture, and nycentric is a reminder, a celebration and a symbol of the rebirth of new york. this event will re-enlighten the people about our culture defining city that is new york city.

BIO:

Born and raised in NYC mainly Prospect Heights Brooklyn (yes DJ Cabin is a ST. Marxman) DJ Cabin was encompassed with hip hop culture by the early 80's --- djing, hip hop, urban styles and fashion, b-boying, popping, beat-boxing, graffiti, rap, urban culture, history and spirituality are all disciplines DJ Cabin studies. He has lived in almost every boro and attended school in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens including Bronx Science and Iona in New Rochelle. In the early 90s the focus became becoming a dj. Now DJ Cabin is a fully mobile dj with many crates (vinyl!) and currently switched to Serato (coded vinyl) with a virtual collection @ around 200,000 songs. all genres played are in a hip hop theme and most have that sound like its either has been looped or should be --- definitely an old school set with only a little contemporary music ranging soul, funk, jazz, world, freestyle, rock, dance/house, 80s,reggae and r&b with a focus on real quality old school hip hop and conscious and hardcore rap (conscious and gangsta - does that make me a hypocrite?)

Throughout the years and currently DJ Cabin has worked @/performed at these live concerts, bars, clubs and radio shows:

NYC's longest running FM Hip Hop Radio show "The Underground Railroad" on WBAI 99.5fm circa 1991, Iona College Radio, Club Southpaw, The Nokia Theater, ExitGrindTime rap battles, the "End Of the Weak" open mic, the Carmello Anthony Redhook basketball tournament, The Hook, Highline Ballroom, Novo, APT, and Sway.

THE SHORT VERSION OF WHY I
WANTED TO BE A HIP/HOP RAP DJ:

Some of the first rap records (vinyl) I ever bought are hugely inspirational songs also the first songs i really memorized - Ladidadi/The Show - Danya Records, the Roxanne Records compilation, Whodini - Escape, It's Like That & Sucker MCs - Run DMC, I Cant Live Without My Radio and whole first LL Cool J. album, Fat Boys and definitely The Message. after those releases i found the friday and saturday/ late nite rap shows--- featuring the gods of hip hop radio djs: Mr Magic!, the legendary Kid Capri, also Chuck Chillout, Marley Marl/Pete Rock, and of course Red Alert, then the underground radio djs The Awesome Two, The Underground Railroad, Half Pint/Hank Love, Silver Surfer and of course Stretch & Bob. probably the hugest influence to start a dj career was the uptown mixtape dj: Ron G, Kid Capri, Doo Wop, S&S, Craig G, Chill Will. I saw some of these djs perform at Skate Key too. Later on Clue reinvented the exclusive then Mr Cee created the best of also other tape kings like DJ Envy also Tony Touch and now Absolut and the incredibly creative Dirty Harry. Through videos and concerts i saw some artists' djs do amazing things: Daddy Rich of 3rd Bass, Jazzy Jeff (Fresh Prince), DJ Scratch, Primo...finally even though hes technically a vj hip hop would not be anything close to what it is without the blessing Ralph McDaniels!!! also last but not least a brilliant blessing for djs dancers b boys rappers artists & hip-hop ---- Afrika Bambaataa and The Almighty Universal Zulu Nation (UZN)!!!
